Why Tynan’s Anger?

Tynan’s Anger is a loving allusion to Kenneth Tynan’s review of Look Back in Anger, a landmark of 20th century theater criticism. Look Back in Anger shaped my views of theater and youth, and I directed a production of the play in college. Since graduation I have been working off that approach, but the name has stuck.

Other deeply influential works of arts criticism include:

Lester Bangs: Of Pop And Pies and Fun (Review of The Stooges’ Fun House).

Mary McCarthy: Eugene O’Neill-Dry Ice

Susan Sontag: Notes on Camp

Jonathan Rosenbaum: Cutting Heroes Down To Size (Reviews of Saving Private RyanSmall Soldiers)

On George Meyer: “Taking Humor Seriously – George Meyer, the funniest man behind the funniest show on TV.”
